Promising but needs work
Like other reviewers, I notice that the user interface has a distinct Windows feel. It can be painful at times -- for example, you cant resize the main window (which is a problem if you dont auto-hide the Dock, as it otherwise interferes with some icons on the bottom of the window).
Unlike some other App store dj programs like djay, VirtualDJ Home cant intelligently sort a playlist by song key -- the key sort is mindlessly alphanumeric (C, C#, D, etc.) instead of by circle of fifths.
In auto mix mode, only one of the turntables is in use, making it hard to see and work with the song that is coming up next in the auto mix, as the songs dont alternate turntables, unlike many other dj programs with an auto mix or auto dj mode.
On the positive side, the visual display of bars, beats and waveforms of the music playing is excellent, with flexible viewing options. There are also excellent cross-fade options; for example, fade (remove intro/outro) or fade (remove silence) and all of them work intelligently. For the most part, this eliminates the need to manually set start and stop cues. For party music, if all you want to do is set an iTunes playlist to play with smooth, musically pleasing transitions, this really is one of the best programs currently available on the App store, second only to djay (which has better features for handling song key).
